Clarendon’s top tips for a spooky stay in London over Halloween

Halloween is fast approaching and if you’re planning a family break in the capital, or you’ve relocated and are inviting your family to stay over Halloween then there is plenty to do. Here are Clarendon’s top tips for a spooky and ghoulish stay in London.

Who wants a ghost tour in the middle of the afternoon? The afterhours ghost tour at Ham House in Richmond takes you through one of the most haunted houses in Britain. Discover its ghostly tales and blood-curdling history as you explore its corridors and rooms. If you dare to make a visit then you’ll be rewarded for your bravery with drinks and refreshments after the ghost tour. No guarantee you’ll have sweet dreams, however.

Halloween is not complete without a visit to the scream-inducing Tower of London and the London Dungeon. A new pumpkin-filled Halloween production will be on for six weeks at County Hall, close to the London Eye. Visitors can meet one of the most famous and fiendish characters from London history, Sweeney Todd. The Demon Barber of Fleet Street along with his evil pumpkin pie making partner in crime Mrs Lovett are just two of the historical characters bringing London’s macabre history alive. Jack the Ripper, Guy Fawkes and Henry VIII are part of the production complete with stunning special effects and thrilling rides. The Dungeon has concocted its own Halloween brew and a ghastly trick or treat lolly for every guest.

The London Eye doesn’t escape the Halloween treatment. As well as being a great way to see London at night, the wheel will be transformed to tell a story. Take part in the tale featuring the High Witch Priscilla and the evil Grimly Grim (voiced by Harry Enfield). A must-visit this October and November.

If you are planning to throw your own Halloween party, or need a few fiendish treats then Greenwich Market is the perfect place to visit. The whole market will get an evil twist with scary stalls selling Halloween goodies with pumpkins decorating every corner. Creepy music sets the scene for family fun as there will be face painting, prizes for the best pumpkins and a scary fashion show for kids to strut their stuff.

There is plenty going on in London across Halloween and ideal for the whole family to enjoy. At Clarendon we offer short let accommodation in Richmond, Canary Wharf, The City and Tower Hill meaning you can stay in accommodation on the doorstep of each of these events. A trip to the capital in the autumn is not complete without a stop off at Oxford Street to see the Christmas lights and perhaps a little early Christmas shopping in London so make the most of your visit with a flexible and affordable, centrally located place to stay.
